Last Chance For A Rent Increase Before 2022?

On August 28. 2020, the Ontario Government announced it will not allow any guideline rent increase in 2021. The Guideline Increase for 2020 is 2.2%.

Landlords who have not given notice to increase the rent this year may have one last chance to do so before 2022. But they'll have to act fast. In order to give a notice to increase the rent for December 2020, a Landlord must give the notice of rent increase by September 2, 2020, as 90 days' notice is required.

Because of the timing of the announcement, it is too late to give a notice of rent increase by mail for December 2020.
